'The second Monday of October' and 'the Monday of the second week of October' sound like the same thing and often are not. In October 2025 the month starts on a Wednesday, so the first Monday is the 6th and the second Monday is the 13th, yet a partial first week can make 'second week' point to the 6th. This calculator counts occurrences, not calendar weeks, which is how rules like holiday dates and meeting schedules are usually written.
Typical case: 4 July 2026. The page hands the date to the browser's calendar and reads off the weekday, and the answer is Saturday. You can check it by hand. 1 January 2000 was a Saturday, and 4 July 2026 is 9,681 days later. Since 9,681 / 7 = 1,383 with nothing left over, the weekday has not moved from the anchor, so it is again Saturday. The general rule is weekday = (anchor weekday + days since anchor) mod 7, using Gregorian leap years: every fourth year, except century years not divisible by 400.
Edge case one: asking for a weekday that is today. In 'Next Weekday' mode, starting from Saturday 4 July 2026 and asking for the next Saturday gives 11 July 2026, in 7 days. The search always begins the day after the start date, so the answer is never 0 days away.
Edge case two: an occurrence that does not exist. February 2026 has Fridays on the 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th, so a request for the 5th Friday cannot be met. Instead of rolling into March the page shows a red box saying the occurrence does not exist in that month. Only occurrences 1 to 5 are offered, and no values are rounded anywhere.
Only when the month has enough days and starts on the right weekday. A 31-day month has three weekdays that appear five times, a 30-day month two, and February in a non-leap year none. A 29-day February has one such weekday, and a 28-day February has none.
Because the search starts tomorrow. If you want to include the start date itself, check the weekday in the first tab and only look ahead when it is not the one you need.
Both may be. The page uses ISO 8601 weeks, which start on Monday, and week 1 is the week with the year's first Thursday. Monday 29 December 2025 is therefore in week 1 of 2026. US calendars often count weeks from Sunday, starting week 1 on 1 January.
It extends today's Gregorian calendar backwards. Places that were still on the Julian calendar then, such as Britain before September 1752 when 2 September was followed by 14 September, will have had different weekdays on the day. Use it for modern dates.
Saturday and Sunday. Some countries observe Friday and Saturday instead, and the Weekday or Weekend label does not account for that.
